In the pre independence period many visionary and social workers established education institutions for the spread of education and also for social enlightenment. Dharampeth Education Society is one such institution. Late Shri. Appasaheb Phatak and some of his devoted friends were some of such visionary and social workers. He along with his friends established the Society. In 1929 a primary school was established with just 12 students and a dedicated teacher. In 1933 a middle school came into being which during the course of time became Dharampeth High School and Junior College (presently known as Tarkunde Dharampeth High School and Junior College). In 1939 a primary school only for girls started functioning. In 1943 Dharampeth Girls’ School came into being with the same purpose (now known as Smt. Meerabai Sancheti Dharampeth Kanya Shala). In 1954 “Shishu Vikas Mandir” for tiny taughts started catering the needs of the kids. This year the Society celebrated Silver Jubilee completing 25 successful years of service in the field of education. In 1960 Dharampeth Arts College came into being. In 1964 Commerce faculty was added. In 1968 Science College started functioning and in 1978 Home Science faculty was added. The college came to the known as Dharampeth Arts and Commerce and Manohar Pandurag Deo Memorial Science College. In 1996 the institution was bifurcated into R S Mundle Arts and Commerce College and Manohar Pandurag Deo Memorial Science College. In 1979 an English medium school was established in the premises provided by the Ordnance Factory at Ambazari. In 1984 R S Mundle School started functioning to meet the popular demand for the purpose. Convener Platinum Jubilee Committee Smt.
